Inside one of the Nissen Huts on the Officers Site

Simple to construct, and lined with fibre board panels, Nissen & Romney Huts were the main form of housing for all ranks. Sparse, and un-insulated, they relied on a pot - bellied stove to provide heat in the winter, and were known to be like hot - houses in the summer months.
They served as sleeping quarters, and cook - houses; and the larger ones, known as Romney Huts, served  as Cinemas, Canteens, and dining halls, MT ( Motor Transport ) sheds The smaller span Nissen and other types were used for practically every other use conceivable.
